# Discovery Call Script (45 minutes, B2B / indie)

**SKU:** `discovery-call-script`
**Price:** $19 USD, paid in USDC on Base
**Format:** Timed agenda + question bank + score sheet + fictional transcript excerpt
**Audience:** Independent consultants, tiny agencies, and product founders who take **inbound or referred** calls. English.

This is not a closer's always-be-closing deck. It is a script for deciding **fit** in 45 minutes. No purchased lists. No fake urgency. No invented pipeline dollar figures.

---

## What you get

1. Pre-call homework (10 minutes) so you do not waste the hour.
2. Minute-by-minute live agenda.
3. Questions grouped by job, constraint, decision, and risk — plus questions you must **not** ask.
4. A 1-page score sheet: pursue / pause / pass.
5. Fictional excerpt: **North Pine Bookkeeping** talking to **Mothlight Studio** (both fictional).

---

## 0. When this script applies

Use it when someone **asked** for a call: inbound form, reply to your public page, or a warm intro who confirmed.

Do **not** use it to cold-call scraped numbers. Do not record without consent. Check your local recording law; this pack is not legal advice.

**Call date:** `__________` **Duration booked:** `__________`
**Their public page:** `________________________________`
**What they already told you in writing:** `________________________________`

---

## 1. Pre-call (10 minutes, no stalking)

Public sources only: homepage, pricing if public, LinkedIn title they chose, the email they sent.

Fill:

| Prompt | Note |
|---|---|
| What they sell / make | |
| Size signal they volunteered (do not guess headcount) | |
| Why they said they wanted this call (quote their sentence) | |
| Your hypothesis of the job (label as hypothesis) | |
| Disqualify guess (label as guess) | |

If you cannot fill why they wanted this call, you are not ready. Email and ask; do not invent a pain.

---

## 2. Live agenda (45 minutes)

| Min | Block | Goal |
|---|---|---|
| 0-3 | Consent + clock | 45 minutes. I will watch the time. OK to take notes. Recording? only if both yes. |
| 3-8 | Their words | They talk. You do not pitch. |
| 8-22 | Job and constraint | Current workaround, who is blocked, what done looks like |
| 22-30 | Decision | Who else is in the room, budget range they raise, timing they own |
| 30-38 | Fit / miss | You say out loud whether you can help, and with what artifact |
| 38-45 | Next or no | One written next step or a clean no |

Timer is visible. If they want a tour of your slides, defer until after minute 30.

## 3. Question bank (ask 6-9, not all)

### Job

- Walk me through the last time this went wrong — what did you do at 4pm that day?
- What do you already use that almost works?
- If this were solved Tuesday, what would a coworker notice?

### Constraint

- What is not allowed (tools, vendors, data leaving the laptop)?
- Whose calendar actually moves this?
- What have you already tried and dropped?

### Decision

- Are you comparing options, or checking whether to do nothing?
- If we both think it is a miss, are you OK ending here? (invite the no)
- What would make this a bad use of the next two weeks?

### Risk

- What would a bad vendor do that would make you never try this category again?
- What data can you **not** send me even under NDA?

### Do not ask

- What's your budget? as the first question (let them name a range if they want; you can state **your** price)
- Who else are you talking to? as a trap
- Personal questions unrelated to the work
- Anything that pressures them to name coworkers you will then spam

---

## 4. Your side of minute 30-38 (say prices out loud)

Template:

```
I help [role] finish [artifact] in [time box], for [price / range], paid [how].
I do not do [out of scope].
From this call, I think you need [A] or you do not need me because [B].
```

State the real price. Do not sell the vibe. If they need a custom proposal, say when you will send **one** page, not a 12-slide theater.

---

## 5. Score sheet (fill in the last 2 minutes or right after)

Score 0 / 1 / 2. Total /12. This is a **filter**, not a personality test.

| Lens | 0 | 1 | 2 | Score |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Job is specific | vague vibe | category | a Tuesday story | |
| They own a next two weeks | no calendar | maybe | named week | |
| Artifact matches what you sell | different job | adjacent | exact | |
| Honest constraints | hidden | partial | named | |
| You can do it without heroics | would sink you | tight | yes | |
| They asked, not you chasing | you pitched cold | mixed | they requested | |

**8-12 pursue** (send the one-pager). **5-7 pause** (they write you). **0-4 pass** (thank-you, no drip).

**Decision:** pursue / pause / pass
**One next step (or none):** `________________________________`

---

## 6. After-call note (same day, to them)

```
Subject: Notes from today's 45m — [topic]
You said: [their Tuesday story, paraphrased].
I heard the job as: [one line].
Fit: [pursue / pause / pass] because [one reason].
If pursue: I will send [artifact] by [date]. Price [x].
If pass: no sequence from me. You can write if the job changes.
```

Do not add them to a newsletter they did not join.

## 7. Fictional excerpt — North Pine x Mothlight

**Fictional.** North Pine Bookkeeping (sole bookkeeper) booked a call with Mothlight Studio (3-person design shop) because Mothlight emailed: We send invoices late and I am tired of chasing.

Tuesday story: a client PDF sat in Slack for 11 days; nobody owned mark sent.

Score: job 2, timing 2, artifact 2 (a simple sent/unsent checklist + reminder SKU), constraints 1 (they will not connect the bank), heroics 2, asked 2. Total 11. Pursue at $19 for the SKU, not a $4k transformation.

North Pine did **not** claim we add $5k/month. They said: You will know if an invoice left Slack.

---

## Anti-list

- [ ] Fake scarcity (two slots left this year)
- [ ] Recording without a yes
- [ ] Follow-up sequence of seven just checking in
- [ ] Asking for intros at minute 5
- [ ] Inflating deal size in a CRM for theater
